MZ
ES150 ~ New years day ride with the Vintage Motorcycle Club.
1951 ~ Onoto Dole Autocycle with 50cc VLT two
stroke engine. This bike is believed to have been built in 1951 by the
firm of Onoto in the town of Dole in the Jura region of France.
The only information I have
regarding this rare machine is here:
"Onoto was a
family firm, founded in 1906 to make bicycles at 5 Faubourg de Châlon,
Dôle. At its peak in 1935 it was producing 125 a day. According to Jean
Goyard's book "Le temps des mobs" the first Onoto mopeds were produced
in 1952, That year there were 5 models variously using Poulain, VLT and
Briban engines. They also made three "vélomoteurs légers" with 98cc
Sachs engines. Information on Onoto seems to be scarce, even in France
and I have no definite information about when production stopped - but
1957 seems to be the last year they were made. As well as the engines
I've mentioned, they also produced models with Ydral, SER and Lavalette
motors. What pictures there are of Onoto mopeds (in their publicity
material these were line drawings by Daniel Rebour) show varied machines
with no discernable 'house style'. This, combined with the variety of
engines, makes me suspect that a good deal of the machines were bought
it from various sources."

This is believed to be the old Onoto factory in Dole
